Workspace reference
Navigation & Shortcuts
Find the current TerraLab controls, mouse gestures, and keyboard shortcuts for moving through a project and shaping terrain.
Windows modifier names: Ctrl, Alt, and Shift. Availability can depend on the active workspace, document, or tool. Text fields keep their native editing shortcuts.
Project and global commands
- New Project — Start a project from the File menu, file-plus toolbar button, or Project Hub card.
Ctrl+N. - Open Project — Open a project from the File menu, folder toolbar button, Project Hub card, or recent-project card.
Ctrl+O. - Open Recent — Show recent projects from File > Open Recent. No shortcut.
- Project Hub — Open the project hub from File > Project Hub. No shortcut.
- Save / Save As — Save the current project or choose a new destination from the File menu.
Ctrl+S/Ctrl+Shift+S. - Import images / replace heightmap — Use File > Import to choose Color Texture, Mask, Normal Map, Specular Map, Reference, Mixed/Unspecified, or Replace Heightmap when available. No shortcut.
- Export — Use File > Export for image, full-stack, preferences, or interrupted-export recovery options when available. The Terrain Materials export icon is also available where applicable. No shortcut.
- Undo / Redo — Step through document history from Edit or the curved-arrow toolbar buttons.
Ctrl+Z/Ctrl+Y;Ctrl+Shift+Zalso redoes. Text fields keep native undo and redo. - Restore Default Workspace — Restore the pane layout from View.
Ctrl+Shift+R. - Check for Updates — Open it from Help. No shortcut. The update indicator and “View Changelog,” “Later,” “Update Now,” and “Cancel Update” buttons appear only when applicable.
Workspace and panel navigation
- Split View, 3D View, 2D View — Switch workspace layout or focus with the toolbar buttons. No keyboard shortcut.
- Pane dividers — Resize the left, center, or right workspace regions by dragging a divider.
- Collapse / Open Materials — Hide or reopen the left workspace panel with its chevron button or edge tab. No shortcut.
- Collapse / Open Layers — Hide or reopen the right workspace panel with its chevron button or edge tab. No shortcut.
- Terrain Materials cards — Select a terrain material by clicking its card. Right-click a card for Move Up, Move Down, or Delete where available.
- New Terrain Material — Add a material with the plus icon. No shortcut.
- Material enabled switch — Show or hide a material layer with its toggle switch. No shortcut.
Viewport navigation
- Fit view — Use View > Fit to Window or the fit icon in the active viewport.
Alt+F. - Zoom Window — Use View > Zoom Window.
Alt+Zactivates rectangular zoom; drag with the left mouse button in the active viewport and pressEscto cancel. - 2D zoom — Roll the mouse wheel around the pointer in Texture View.
- 2D pan — Drag with the middle mouse button in Texture View.
- 3D orbit — Drag with the middle mouse button in 3D View.
- 3D pan — Hold
Shiftwhile dragging with the middle mouse button in 3D View. - 3D zoom — Roll the mouse wheel in 3D View.
- Lighting Settings — Open from the View menu or the sun icon in 3D View.
- Terrain Scale — Open from the View menu or the ruler icon in 3D View.
- Preview Quality — Choose Low—Fast, Medium—Balanced, High—Detailed, or Ultra—Maximum from the View menu’s image-icon flyout.
Painting, selection, and transforms
- Brush / Eraser — Choose the toolbar icons in Texture workspace.
B/E; unavailable while editing text. - Fill — Choose the toolbar icon, then click the 2D canvas. A valid active paint target is required.
- Rectangle, Ellipse, Lasso, Polygon Select — Choose a selection tool from the toolbar.
- Move / Navigate — Choose the toolbar icon to select navigation mode.
- Selection mode: New/Replace, Add, Subtract, Intersect — Choose a mode with the toolbar buttons. While selecting,
Shiftadds,Altsubtracts, andShift+Altintersects.Shiftalso constrains a selection gesture;Altdraws it from its center. - Complete polygon selection — Press
Enterduring an active Polygon Select gesture. - Cancel an active selection or brush stroke — Press
Esc. - Select All / Deselect / Invert — Use Edit in 2D Texture View with a Texture Studio document.
Ctrl+A/Ctrl+D/Ctrl+Shift+I; unavailable while editing text. - Cut / Copy / Paste / Duplicate Selection to New Layer / Delete Selection — Use the Edit menu with an eligible texture selection.
Ctrl+X/Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V/Ctrl+J/Delete. - Transform — Use Edit > Transform or the transform panel with a transformable selected layer.
Ctrl+T. Drag handles in 2D;Enterapplies andEsccancels. - Transform panel actions — Center, Fit to Heightmap, Flip H, Flip V, Reset, Apply, and Cancel buttons are available while Transform mode is active.
- Brush size — Adjust the toolbar slider or numeric field.
[decreases and]increases while a paint tool is active; unavailable while editing text. - Swap / reset grayscale swatches — Use the swap button or swatch controls.
Xswaps andDresets; unavailable while editing text. - Brush precision mode — Hold
Caps Lockwhile a paint tool is active. There is no dedicated visible button.
Layers and image commands
- New Layer, New Mask Layer, New Group — Use the Layers menu, layer action bar, or context menus when available. No shortcuts.
- Duplicate or delete active layer / group — Use the layer action-bar icons or row context menu.
Deleteremoves a focused layer or group row; this differs from Delete Selection, which removes the eligible texture selection. - Rename layer / group — Use its context menu or double-click its name.
Entercommits andEsccancels the rename field. - Visibility / Lock — Use the eye and lock icons on layer or group rows. They apply to selected rows subject to lock and state rules. No shortcuts.
- Expand / collapse group — Use the caret icon on group rows. No shortcut.
- Reorder hierarchy — Drag layer or group rows. Drag selected hierarchy items;
Esccancels a pending drag. - Image commands — Use the Image menu or layer context menu for Resample, Levels, Hue/Saturation, Brightness/Contrast, editable-mask or grayscale conversion, alpha generation, merge, asset type, and individual export when available for the selected layer. No shortcuts.
- Clear to Transparency — Use the Layers menu or a layer context menu on a selected eligible layer. No shortcut.
Focused controls and dialogs
- Numeric fields —
